EASTERN PROVINCE

NYAGATARE—Passengers aboard the Mimuri to Kigali minibus were held hostage my armed men during a carjacking in Cyabaya cell in Nyagatare, robbing the entire group of all belongings.

Disguised as traffic policemen along Mukama sector road, the men first ordered the taxi driver to open so that they could search the vehicle. Things only got worse when arms  were shown and all possessions taken.

According to security officials it has been established that a number of suspects including a police constable have been netted in connection with armed robbery as investigations continued throughout the week.

"It’s the first time such a thing happened to me,” said one disturbed passenger.

"We saw a policeman who stopped us but to my surprise it so happened that the people we trusted as police men turned against us and instead commandeered each and every one to surrender to our possessions which included money, phones and other tangible goods.”

Nyagatare district police commander Superintendent Emmanuel Kalasi confirmed the incident, saying investigation were still under way.
