Mount Kenya University (MKU) marked a major milestone on December 6, as it honored the achievements of more than 7,000 graduates during its 26th graduation ceremony. Among them were 996 graduates from the Rwandan campus, now rebranded as Mount Kigali University.

Themed "Internationalization of University Education for a Competitive Global Workforce,” the event also celebrated the accreditation of 36 programs across six schools, including the prestigious School of Law. This milestone underscores the university's dedication to academic excellence and relevance in a dynamic job market.

In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Martin Kimemia lauded the graduating Class of 2024 for their perseverance and commitment. He credited their success to the concerted efforts of the university’s leadership, including the Academic Senate and management, who strive to foster a supportive and innovative academic environment.

"Special congratulations to the Class of 2024 on their remarkable achievements. Our success stems from the collective efforts of the university leadership, Academic Senate, and management. Together, we create an environment that nurtures talent and innovation for student success,” Dr. Kimemia said.

He emphasized the university’s mission to produce globally competitive professionals, celebrating the graduates’ resilience and readiness to take on global challenges.

Dr. Kimemia highlighted the launch of the MKU Digital Learning Hub, an initiative designed to equip students with critical skills for the digital economy, ensuring their competitiveness in the ever-evolving workforce.

The Vice Chancellor also underscored the university’s commitment to community service, citing initiatives such as Umuganda and medical camps that reflect MKU&039;s dedication to making a positive impact beyond academics.

"To the graduates, carry forward the values instilled at MKU in everything you do. Use your degree as a tool to shape your future and contribute positively to your communities. We are proud of you and wish you success. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you have imagined,” he said.

Emmanuel Murenzi, an MKU alumnus, congratulated the graduates and shared how his education transformed his professional trajectory.

"Studying at Mount Kenya University was transformative. The skills I gained in project management, resource mobilization, and leadership empowered me to scale my organization from 19 staff in five districts to 115 nationwide,” he shared.

Florence Kudembe, the university’s first female Guild President and a graduate from the Department of Mass Media and Communication, praised MKU’s visionary leadership for fostering a thriving academic environment.

"To my fellow graduates, this magical moment belongs to all of us. We come from diverse schools and disciplines, united by the hard work, perseverance, and shared experiences that brought us here,” she said.

Mount Kigali University continues to expand its infrastructure to meet the growing demand for quality education. New schools and academic programs are being developed, including specialized offerings such as Dental Technology and Therapy, aimed at advancing modern dentistry in the region.

Strategic partnerships are also enhancing learning opportunities. Collaborations with Kigali Paramount Hotel and Royal FM provide students with hands-on experience in tourism and media studies, respectively, further preparing them for competitive careers.

As Mount Kenya University celebrates this milestone, it reaffirms its commitment to producing well-rounded professionals equipped to thrive in a global workforce while contributing to their communities’ development.
