RwandAir announces programme to train young pilots

The national carrier, RwandAir, on Thursday, December 5, announced a programme to train young Rwandan individuals aged between 18 and 24 years to become pilots.

"RwandAir, the national carrier of Rwanda and one of Africa’s fastest-growing airlines, invites passionate, ambitious, and talented individuals to join our Cadet Pilot Program,” read a statement from the airline.

According to the communique, the deadline for submitting applications is December 15, 2024.

The program will give opportunity to the successful applicants to receive "exceptional training from industry experts,” as well as career growth with a clear pathway to becoming first officers, RwandAir’s statement pointed out.

In addition, the airliner noted that the program will give global exposure to the successful applicants, making them part of a "diverse and innovative team” flying to exciting destinations worldwide and "an inspiring legacy by joining a company committed to excellence and professionalism.”

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, an individual must be a Rwandan aged between 18 and 24, must have completed at least secondary school education in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), Mathematics, Physics and Geography (MPG), Mathematics, Physics and Computer (MPC), Mathematics, Economics and Geography (MEG), Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology (MCB), Mathematics, Computer and Economics (MCE) with 80 per cent [score in those subjects].

Having completed a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with second class upper would be an added advantage.

Other criteria are physical fitness where an applicant must meet the medical standards required for a commercial pilot license, a strong desire to pursue a career as a pilot, English proficiency with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Also, background and reference checks might be required, depending on the specific duties of the mechanic role, the announcement added.

Program Overview

The Cadet Pilot Program includes ground school and simulator training at globally recognised flight schools, supervised flight hours leading to Commercial Pilot License (CPL), and comprehensive soft skills and leadership training.

Application Process

Shortlisted candidates will undergo aptitude tests, interviews, and medical evaluations.

Successful candidates will embark on their aviation journey with RwandAir.

How to Apply

The process includes an application letter addressed to the Chief HR and Administration Officer; recent curriculum vitae, a photocopy of the passport or national ID, copies of degree or diploma certificates, copies of relevant certificates, and three referees (references).
