Remera cemetery running out of space

Undertakers at the Remera cemetery have revealed that it is running out of space to accommodate more burials.

NGO to hold camp for children
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation [EGPAF] has organised a three day camp for children.

Under the theme ‘BUILDING HOPE’ children will be provided with psychosocial counselling.

The foundation has presence in 18 countries.
In Rwanda EGPAF is in five districts; Ngoma, Rwamagana, Kayonza, Gatsibo, and in 6 Kigali City health facilities.

Survey reveals difference in gender

Statistics have revealed reveal that despite the increasing number of women in positions of leadership, men is still dominant in public offices.

The survey done by Gender Monitoring Office reveals that in local government, women have less leadership position compared to men from the provincial level to Executive Secretaries of sectors. The worst is in district leadership where female mayors constitute only 7 percent.

Conference convenes in Rubavu

A total of 38 parliamentarians are holding a conference on the security in the Great Lakes Region in Rubavu, Northern Province, Rwanda.

Twenty of the dignitaries will be from Rwanda and the rest from Burundi, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Embassy to Tele-cast Obama speech

The United States Embassy in Kigali will today broadcast live the speech to the Ghanaian parliament by    US President, Barack Obama from Accra.

The US President will be talking about democracy and good governance issues in Africa.

During his 24 hour visit, the President is expected to mainly embark upon promoting democracy across the continent. 

Ethiopian Airlines wins Award

Ethiopian Airlines has been named the ‘Airline of the Year 2009’ at the African Business Awards organized by the London-based African Business and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC).

Present at this festive and memorable African night were prominent government leaders including H.E President Paul Kagame and several other ministers from different African countries.

OLPC in India 
A US-based non profit organization called One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is planning to distribute three million XO laptops, among children entering schools by the end of 2009.

The OLPC project is drawing a good response from all over the world. It is already a success in Latin America and some African countries such as Libya, Nigeria and Rwanda.

Regional MP meet

AMANI forum in association with AWEPA have organised a conference that is expected to discuss regional security.

Expected to start today in Rubavu, Western Province, the meeting will mainly discuss regional security and it will be a follow up on a similar one that took place in the Tanzanian capital in 2004.

It will attract at least 38 legislators from Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, the Democratic republic of Congo and Zambia.
