KHARTOUM, SUDAN - THE Secretary General of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) Nicholas Musonye has said they are considering inviting a West African team for the U-17 tournament to be staged by Sudan next month.

Musonye told Times Sport in an interview at the El Merreikh Stadium that they are already in talks with some nations in West Africa and should confirm the guest team at the end of July or early next month.

The El Merreikh Investment Group in conjunction with the Sudan Football Association will host the tournament in Khartoum and Southern Sudan.

Musonye said Cecafa is very committed to improve talent within the region and one of the ways of doing that is by fielding guest teams to spice up the competition.  

"Playing against these guest sides helps our teams and individual players learn so many things and also market themselves better because their CVs are also getting enriched,” explained Musonye.

Asked about some reports that member countries have started fielding over-aged players in junior competitions, Musonye confessed that they are aware and will tighten up starting with next month’s event.

"We shall ask some teams to pack-up and return to their countries if we discover that their players are over-age,” said a tough speaking Musonye.
