APR ladies volleyball coach Paul Bitok has flown back to his native Kenya to prepare their national team for the upcoming FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship. The event is scheduled for July 16-25 in Mexico.

Kenya, a late replacement for Egypt who withdrew from the event last month are drawn in Group C alongside Brazil, Dominican Republic and Poland.

Host nation Mexico, Netherlands, Venezuela and Thailand are in Group A. China, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic and Germany in Group B while Group D pits USA with Bulgaria, Cuba and Turkey.

According to the competition format, the top two teams from each group will advance to the final phase of the competition to be held in Mexicali.

The other eight teams will compete for positions nine through 16.
Bitok was lured to the APR ladies team early this year in a bid to transform the club into a volleyball power house. The Kenyan is one of the region’s top volleyball coaches.

In 2005, he led Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) to a third spot finish in the Africa Club Championship before guiding them to the African title the following year.

"The man’s profile speaks for it self. He has vast coaching experience and we are positive that he will lead APR and Rwandan volleyball in general to greater heights,” APR manager Augustin Munyandamutsa said of the Kenyan coach.
