Norwegian second division club Ham Kam wants $1 million (Rwf565 million) for Rwanda’s Olivier Karekezi.

According to HA-Sport, Egypt’s Al-Ahly who are chasing for the player’s signature have to break the bank to land the Amavubi skipper.

"We are in negotiations, and it is too early to say anything concrete, but the signals are that Al-Ahly still wants to buy Karekezi,” Ham Kam Chief Executive Officer Tor Rullestad was quoted as saying.

"Olivier is our biggest selling item. We will require a good sum ($1million) for him to go anywhere.”

The Ham Kam official did not hide the fact that a sale of Karekezi will be very important for the club.

"It will be very positive because it has a lot to say for our equity and preliminary communication has been on the phone, mail and fax with Al-Ahly,” Rullestad said early this month.

The former APR star moved to Ham Kam after spending three seasons with Swedish club Helsingborg IF.

His switch to Al-Ahly, Egypt and Africa’s most successful club will be a boost to his career and the national team, particularly at this time when the team is struggling in its campaign to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and Africa Nations Cup in South African and Angola respectively.

It is not unrealistic that Al-Ahly will scroll up such an amount. The Egyptian club is great in Africa context. They have won the Africa Champions League five times (1982, 1987, 2001, 2005 and 2006). In addition, they have 33 league and 33 cup in Egypt.
