Kagame in Arusha for EAC Summit

President Paul Kagame arrived in Arusha, Tanzania on Saturday, November 30, where he joins other Heads of State from across the East African Community (EAC) for the 24th Ordinary Summit of EAC Heads of State themed "Promoting Trade, Sustainable Development and Peace & Security for Improved livelihoods.”

The Community is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Upon arrival at the airport, the President was welcomed by Shariff Ali Shariff, Minister of State in the President's Office for Work, Economy and Investment of Zanzibar.

The EAC made progress over the last 25 years regarding expansion and the implementation of the single customs union and common market protocol, James Kabarebe, Rwanda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Charge of Regional Cooperation, said on Friday, November 29, while speaking on behalf of the EAC Council of Ministers, the decision-making organ of the bloc.

Speaking at a high-level side event to celebrate the EAC silver jubilee, Kabarebe called for more regional effort to address the remaining challenges to unlock the bloc’s full potential.
