-Gov’t pledge support for Amavubi
-Ferwafa shift focus to 2010 CAN

THE Ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc), Amavubi’s prime financer has pledged to stick to the team despite a crumbling qualifying campaign for next year’s World Cup and Africa Nations Cup.

Amavubi suffered their second successive defeat of the campaign last Sunday when they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat against Egypt in Cairo. The loss dampened their hopes of making the trip to South Africa but Minispoc Permanent Secretary Jean Pierre Karabaranga insists that the government is not about to give up on the team.

"We still have the belief that Rwanda can win her remaining Group C matches so we will continue supporting the team,” Karabaranga said.

"Just like Amavubi, our objective as a country is to either reach the World Cup or Africa Nations Cup and we will accomplish this mission,” Karabaranga said.

After Egypt’s loss, Ferwafa boss Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura knows that Rwanda needs to concentrate on qualifying for the 2010 Africa Nations Cup in Angola.

"We now have to win our remaining matches if we are to even have a chance of qualifying for next year’s CAN,” Kazura conceded.

Kazura’s remarks will shock Amavubi head coach Branko Tucak who still believes that the door to South Africa is still open.

After drawing with Algeria and losing out to Zambia and Egypt, Rwanda is rooted at the foot of Group C with one point out of a possible nine.

Algeria tops the group on seven points while Zambia and Egypt are level on four but separated by goal difference.
