On June 28th, Rwandan children celebrated International Children’s Book Day. Under the theme ‘Reading for Life,’ they came together to read books and discuss their favourite story books. They were also excited to share why they loved reading. Below is what they had to say.

"My favourite book is, ‘The Lion and the Rat’ by Paulino Mwiandi. It teaches me not to do bad things with others because I might get a problem and they help me. I like reading because when I grow up, I might become a Policewoman, Pilot or Captain.”-

"‘Crocodile Trouble’ by Paulino Mwiandi is my favourite book because it teaches me not to be greedy and selfish. I love reading because it is interesting and it teaches me to know new words.”- Prince Mugisha Manzi, 8, P.3.

The Youngest Reader. This is Praise Mugisha Mbaho and he is 2 years old. His fascination is books and according to his mother, Praise is the youngest reader. She said this is because everyone in the family is into books.   

 "‘From rags to Riches’ by Riyaz Bachani is my best book because it teaches me to be kind, helpful and not to be selfish. I like reading because I get more knowledge.”-

"I like stories that mommy reads for me. I like colour yellow the most and I like colouring all colours.”-

"My favourite book is ‘Who Owns the Fruit Tree’ by Evangeline L. Barongo. The book tells me that if you plant something, it is yours. For example; If you are bigger than me and I plant a tree, don’t tell me that it is yours because I am the one who planted it.”- Natasha Uwase, 8, P.3.
