Fifty six secondary schools under the Forum for African Women Educationists (FAWE), a week ago received 36,936 English dictionaries.

This was at FAWE Girls School at Gisozi.
These dictionaries were donated by the USA, which also gives scholarships to facilitate girls’ education.

According to Joseph Rwagatare, the Head Teacher of Rwandan Schools and also the Headmaster of Kagarama Secondary School, the dictionaries will help students learn English.

This is especially important as the educational system shifts from using French to English in all schools.

The US Ambassador to Rwanda, Stuart Symington was present at the function and said children have the future of Rwanda and the world in their hands.

He affirmed the girls that with their young and energetic minds, they could overcome the futility of the world and create a better future.

FAWE girls speak out
"There are many girls who do not go to school because their parents cannot afford to pay school fees. When we get scholarships, our education is improved because we are encouraged to study more.” Maureen Ingabire, 14, S.1.

"Supporting girls education is important because it develops us. Before girls were put aside while boys studied. I know it is our right to have an education.” Jessica Uwera, 12, S.1.
