THE four cities bidding to host the 2016 Olympic Games have shifted their campaign to the African continent.

Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo have all gathered at the Hilton Hotel and Towers in the Nigerian capital where the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) is holding their 13th quadrennial meeting.

A delegation from London 2012, led by Chairman Sebastian Coe, is also attending the meeting to update delegates on the progress that they are making.

The International Olympic Committee will select the host city for the 2016 Games on October 2 in Copenhagen, Denmark this year. Last month, the cities contacted Rwanda National Olympic and Sport Committee to support their candidatures but RNOC president Ignace Beraho insisted that they would not reveal their choice until October.

Beraho is also locked in a tough race to win the post of ANOCA secretary general. The elections are set for today and Beraho is contesting for the seat alongside five other candidates.

Other positions being contested for include president, four vice-presidents, treasurer and a female board member to address the issue of gender equity.
