A three-day level one coaching clinic in swimming was held in Kigali from November 22-24, an initiative primed to boost for talent development in the sport.

Through the clinic organized by the Rwanda Swimming Federation(RSF) in partnership with Africa Aquatics, a total of 17 coaches from across the country acquired skills to enhance their expertise in coaching open water swimming, a sport conducted in natural water environments.

Facilitated by South African coach Cedric Finch, a World Aquatics-certified trainer, the clinic offered participants advanced techniques in coaching open water athletes. Finch, who has vast international experience, introduced modern training strategies and methods to optimize athlete performance in open water competitions.

The program didn’t end in the classroom. Following the sessions in Kigali, the coaches traveled to Karongi and Rubavu districts to observe athletes training in Lake Kivu. Finch was impressed by the lake's water conditions and safety standards, highlighting its potential to host international competitions.

His remarks reaffirm the Swimming Federation's vision of positioning the country as a hub for Open Water Swimming events.

At the clinic’s conclusion, federation president Cynthia Munyana commended the coaches for their commitment to improving aquatic sports in Rwanda.

"We are delighted to see our coaches participating in such large numbers and demonstrating a willingness to learn and share knowledge. This is a good step in the development of aquatic sports in Rwanda especially Open Water Swimming,” Munyana said.

"I hope the knowledge you’ve gained will help develop new talents and prepare our athletes for international success. I extend my gratitude to Africa Aquatics and World Aquatics for their invaluable support in organizing this event,” she added.
