At least one person was killed and 28 other injured on Sunday, November 24, when a bus overturned in Rulindo District.
The traffic incident happened around 7:30 a.m, when the bus was en route from Gicumbi District. It had 28 members of the RPF-Inkotanyi from Gicumbi, who were going to Musanze District for the party's provincial meeting.
Nineteen people sustained minor injuries while seven are in critical condition, according to Superintendent of Police Jean Bosco Mwiseneza, the police spokesperson in the Northern Province.
"We remind drivers to avoid recklessness while they are driving,” Mwiseneza said.
The injured are receiving treatment from Byumba Hospital in Gicumbi.
"The chairperson of RPF-Inkotanyi in the Northern Province, along with chairpersons in Burera, Gicumbi, Rulindo, and Gakenke Districts, visited the family of the victim and other party members who are receiving medical care at Byumba and Kinihira hospitals to comfort them,” read a statement from RPF Gicumbi shared on X.
An investigation is ongoing to find out the cause of the incident, according to police, and the driver was taken in custody at Bushoki Police Station in Rulindo.
