IGNACE Beraho is sure of landing ANOCA (Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa)’s secretary general seat despite stiff competitive from five candidates.
The National Olympic Committee (RNOC) boss is contesting for the post alongside Zimbabwe’s Robert Mutsauki, Khaled Zein Eldin of Egypt, Raymond Ibata of Congo, Nigeria’s Olabanji Oladapo and Santi Sene Hagne of Senegal.
Before flying out for ANOCA’s general assembly scheduled for July 5-8 in Nigeria, the renowned veteran sports administrator claimed that he had the edge over his opponents.
"I have garnered good support from several NOCs in East, Central, North, South and Western Africa,” Beraho said before adding, "I’m an athlete and I’m going to win.”
The post of Anoca secretary-general has been vacant since the resignation of Angolan Gustavo Concecaio in November last year.
If elected, Beraho will become the first Rwandan on the ANOCA executive committee.
Other posts up for grabs at the general assembly include; president, four vice-presidents, treasurer and a female board member to address the issue of gender equity.
The IOC president Jacques Rogge, former Namibian track star Frankie Fredericks, now chairman of the IOC Athletes Commission among others will be in attendance.
