All religious leaders have been called upon to become partners in modernizing previously archaic attitudes towards affirmative action, positive communication and socioeconomic development.
Speaking during a conference on the role of organized religion on today’s Rwanda, Mayor Celestin Karabayinga said religious leaders had to reorient their principles to help build a modern, tolerant and responsible country.
‘’You have different sects of people you lead, we should have strong measures geared towards proper planning and programming in coordinating development activities,” Karabayinga said.
Representatives of the political parties including PL, PSD, RPF, PSP and PDI were castigated to promote unity and cooperation in society.
Over 150 representatives from the 15 sectors of Musanze district came to an understanding to actively participate in the campaign for family-planning, fighting against HIV/Aids, malaria and promoting all government programs.
Bishop John Ruchahana of Shira Diocese retaliated and challenged the religious to set an example in promoting a culture of peace and also join hands in socio-economic development.
