Gastibo district to access information technology through RITA

Gatsibo—Residents of Kabarore and those from other sectors in Gatsibo district are to gain access to the internet and telecommunications as a new telecentre in unveiled.

Spearheaded by the Rwanda Information Technology Agency (RITA) the centre will be under the management of local computer company Computer Bytes.

The centre is to hold 15 desktop computers and Computer Bytes engineer Francis Ochein said these centre would be specifically advantageous to people in rural areas.

"These telecentres are meant to enlighten and educate people about information technology and because they are not after making money, they will be of much help to people in rural areas,” Ochein said.

"It will be nice to have access to IT and other educational information within reach,” said one resident.

"We have been travelling long distances and we are now looking forward to this new development.” 

As of Sunday, the first phase of RITA’s planned 12 telecentres throughout the country will have been completed.

Rwanda Information Technology Authority (RITA) was designed to serve as the national coordinating body to support the development and the implementation of the National Information and Communications Infrastructure.
