Morocco has replaced Mozambique in the upcoming 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers, FIBA announced on Tuesday.

The decision comes after Mozambique informed the Regional Office of Africa that they won’t be available in the qualifiers which will take place in Dakar, Senegal, from November 22-24, due to the current political unrest in the country.

With three days left to the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers tip-off, the Regional Office Africa, which oversees basketball governance in the region, selected Morocco as Mozambique's replacement on the basis of their results in the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Pre-Qualifiers as well as their position in FIBA World Rankings.

Morocco, who currently rank 18th in Africa (97th in the world), came short in a two-game Pre-Qualifiers series against Libya held in Monastir, Tunisia, in February.

They will join South Sudan, DR Congo and Mali in Group A.

Morocco last featured in the AfroBasket in 2017 when they finished fourth. The Northern African country failed to qualify for the finals of the 2021 AfroBasket edition held in Kigali after they finished at the bottom of Group E in the qualifiers.
