Seven months ago, Yvonne Kayitesi and Blandy Uwase introduced This and That, a podcast with a fresh take on lifestyle content. Unlike most podcasts in Rwanda, which often focus on politics or current affairs, the duo set out to explore youth culture and everyday experiences.

Their journey wasn’t without challenges—early episodes faced criticism on social media—but their persistence paid off. With over 25,000 subscribers on YouTube, they’ve expanded to audio streaming platforms to reach even more listeners.

"This isn’t just a relationship podcast,” Kayitesi, widely known as Tessy, shared. "We dive into all aspects of lifestyle—what’s trending, what’s relevant, and even practical advice like making money. It’s all about inspiring and educating the youth.”

Both hosts juggle their roles as journalists—Kayitesi with Isango Star TV and Uwase with TV & Radio 10. Now, the podcast is branching out with a new segment, "This and That Travels,” which aims to shift perspectives on leisure and self-care.

"People often limit themselves because of stereotypes,” Kayitesi explains. "Some think casinos are just for the rich or that gyms are too expensive. Our travel vlogs show how accessible these experiences can be, from tourist attractions to restaurants and even fitness centers. It’s about giving people fresh ideas for enjoying life, especially during challenging times.”

When asked how they balance their dynamics as journalists with their roles as co-hosts—especially with the podcast’s expansion—Kayitesi explained:

"Our episodes cover various topics, from hosting artists debuting music to actors, single mothers sharing their journeys, and more. We aim to be diverse. For example, when we feature someone like Bulldogg, you might think it’s just about his music, but we take an innovative approach, exploring all aspects of his life where he’s gained experience and insights to share with our audience.”

To their current audience, Kayitesi promises even more creativity in the future. "This and That is more than a podcast; it’s a company. As we grow financially, we plan to roll out new forms of content. For those unfamiliar with us—there’s incredible content by Rwandans out there, and ours is among the best in lifestyle. Just ask around.”
