Rayon Sports president-elect Thadée Twagirayezu has set an ambitious target to win the 2024/25 Rwanda Premier League title on his first year in office.

Twagirayezu was elected Blues president for a four-year term, succeeding outgoing Jean Fidèle Uwayezu who stepped down from the position in September citing health issues.

The Blues, now coached by Robertinho, currently lead the table of Rwanda Premier League with 20 points, two clear of second-placed Gorilla FC and Twagirayezu insists the title remain his top priority this season, having failed to win the title since 2019.

”My major target is to make sure we are genuine challengers for the 2024/25 league title. I have been in Rayon Sports for a while now and I’m committed to its success,” he said.

"I have a lot of confidence in these players we have signed. I have no doubt that we will again win the league this season.”

"We have a strong mixture squad, which is made up of players of experience and young who have proved themselves at good levels. We have a task to push and aim is to win the league title,” the businessman added.

Twagirayezu won the vote of confidence from members of the club during the general assembly that took in Nzove on Saturday, November 16.

He will head the club’s executive committee which also comprises Prosper Muhirwa and Roger Aimable Ngoga who were elected first and second vice-presidents respectively. Patrick Rukundo was elected as the treasurer while Chance Denys Gacinya, who formerly led the club between 2014 and 2017, joined as as advisor.

The newly-elected committees take office with a shared goal of bringing the club to its former glory.

"I am happy for being entrusted with the new responsibilities. I have the responsibility of building the strong team which challenge for the titles,” said Twagirayezu.

"We are going to continue working as a team with fellow members of Rayon Sports and we hope to carry out and maintain the club’s ambition this season.”
