NORTHERN PROVINCE

NKUMBA—800 students who are meant to join universities and other higher institutions of learning were over the weekend passed out after completing a three week civic education training (Ingando), at the Peace and Leadership Centre in Nkumba, Burera District.

This is the first batch of the eight groups of government sponsored students who are meant to attend the training this year.

The Minister of Youth Protais Mitali, who presided over the pass out, called upon students to be agents of change and engines of the county’s transformation.

"We cannot have sustainable development without people to promote it. Students hold a big responsibility of shaping the country’s future,” he said, adding that countries thrive on the power of the youth if their strength is properly harnessed.

Dr. Jean Baptiste Habyarimana the president for the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), urged the students to use the acquired knowledge to stem genocide ideology in schools.

Meanwhile, a fresh  batch of 950 students were  received on the same day to begin the training.
