KARONGI— The Imbuto Foundation has launched the second quarter of Youth Empowerment Workshops(YEWs) in Karongi District.
This is part of Imbuto Foundation Youth Leadership and Mentorship Programme aimed at promoting sustainable opportunities for young Rwandan leaders of tomorrow, and in turn, contributing to the development of the country.
The second quarter programme, under the theme; ‘communication as a tool of professionalism and self-esteem’, was launched last Sunday, at Morial Hill Resort in Bwishyura Sector.
The organisation’s officials said the theme was chosen after realising that quite often; interpersonal and written communication is under-utilised within professional working environments.
The organisers thus realised that this is a tool which can be used to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
YEWs are carried out by the Imbuto Foundation in partnership with the ministries of Youth and that of Sports and Culture.
After registering 83% attendance during the first quarter of YEW which was held in March this year, the workshop started by asking participants in the province how they utilised the knowledge gained during the debut workshops.
Many of them testified that they have exclusively fought the culture of low self esteem while others have used the knowledge they acquired in several ways including meeting performance contracts in their respective fields.
Discussing various sub topics, Kigali City Mayor, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira and Senator Wellars Gasamagera briefed youth on what constitutes effective communication skills.
The speakers noted that good communication skills enhance professionalism and self-esteem while facilitating the sharing of experience and challenges.
Dr. Kirabo added that youth need to first accept their failures in order to achieve their goals.
"If you want to graduate from one step to another, you have to first accept failure and know how to handle it in order to succeed,’ she said.
