THE national cycling federation, Ferwacy has been forced to delay the ‘Ascension des Milles Collines’ cycling competition after failing to raise the required budget.

The annual event had been scheduled for early July but according to the Ferwacy president Aimable Bayingana, the federation has been forced to postpone it to next month.

"We are still struggling to raise the required funds, so we have moved it to August because we believe we shall have garnered enough sponsorship then,” Bayingana revealed.

Huye is one seven clubs expected to take part. The others include; Rapide, Rubavu, Cine Elmay, Rwamagana, Kayonza and Unatave.

Rubavu won last year’s edition and are widely expected to be front runners this year after tempting three-time Tour de Rwanda champion Abraham Ruhumuriza from Huye.

‘Ascension des Milles Collines’ is the second event on the local cycling calendar after ‘Kwita Izina’ which was held last month.
