Former Kirehe District mayor Gerald Muzungu was on Saturday, November 16, appointed as interim mayor of Karongi District, replacing Valentine Mukase who resigned.

According to the district’s post on X, Maurice Nsabibaruta also replaced Théophile Niragire as the interim Vice Mayor in Charge of Economic Development.

The two officials resigned citing personal reasons on Friday, November 15, along with Donatha Dusingize, who headed the District Council.

Nsabibaruta has been working as Division Manager of the Community Development and Strategy Coordination Division at the Local Administrative Entities Development Agency.

The changes come following reports of poor service delivery at the district's One Stop Center where 12 members of staff were also fired on Friday.
