Volleyball: APR beat Kepler in four-set thriller

In an action-packed encounter at Gisagara Gymnasium on Friday, November 15, APR outlasted Kepler VC in the men’s volleyball league match, securing a victory in four sets (26-24, 23-25, 31-29, 26-24).

The match showcased team A’s experience and adaptability as they overcame Kepler’s energetic and determined performance.

APR started the game strongly, displaying solid teamwork and coordinating attacks. However, Kepler remained relentless, challenging APR with strong defensive blocks and well-placed spikes.

The teams traded points until the final moments, but APR managed to claimed the set 26-24.


Kepler regrouped in the second set, showing remarkable improvement in their offensive plays and consistency. They took advantage of APR’s errors and built a slight lead midway through the set. Despite APR's attempts to close the gap, Kepler held on and won the set 25-23, leveling the score and demonstrating their ability to counter APR’s strategy.

The third set was a showcase of endurance, skill, and competitive spirit. Both teams fought point for point, with the score extending beyond the typical set limit as neither team wanted to concede. Kepler displayed impressive tenacity, but APR’s experience and tactical edge ultimately helped them pull ahead, sealing the set 31-29 to take a 2-1 set lead.


In the fourth set, APR looked to close out the game but faced a resilient Kepler side determined to push for a fifth set. The set remained neck and neck, with APR’s tactical plays and Kepler’s fierce defense making for an exhilarating contest. In the end, APR’s consistency and experience allowed them to pull away, winning the set 26-24 and clinching the match 3-1.


Earlier at 5 PM, APR women, led by captain Valentine Munezero, dominated Kepler in a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-20, 25-18).

Club coach Peter Kamasa’s team dominated the game from the onset, with his squad leading the charge with powerful spikes and strategic plays, APR’s experience and balanced attack proved too much for Kepler VC, as they dominated from the start to finish.


As the volleyball action intensifies, Sunday promises another thrilling lineup with APR VC taking on Kigali Volleyball Club in the men's category.

In the women’s category, Kepler VC will look to bounce back against Rwanda Polytechnic (RPH), while APR VC aims to maintain their form when they clash with Ruhango Volleyball Club (RVC). With teams vying for crucial points.
