RWANDA’S senior national footbal team, Amavubi, is planning to play against Sudan in a FIFA international friendly sometime between November 13 and December 18.
The Secretary General of Rwanda Football Federation, Henry Muhire, has said he hopes this match will help in "preparing our national team ahead of the next match” as well as keeping the players in good shape.
As noted, it will also provide a number of players with the opportunity to prove they should be selected in the national team.
"We are trying our best to get a match and it will be good to play international friendly. Sudan is a good side and they will help us to prepare our players. We need to keep our team competitive as we continue to plan for a better future,” Muhire added.
Ferwafa has ruled out the possibility of Amavubi playing an international friendly match against Burundi who will face Côte d’Ivoire on November 19 in Morocco.
On FIFA ranking, Rwanda is in 137th place with 1099,66 points.
Carlos Alos Ferrer’s quest to qualify for the 2023 AFCON has encountered some challenges. The team previously lost to Senegal and drew against Mozambique.
In the upcoming fixtures, Rwanda will play return games against Senegal and Mozambique, and then two matches against Benin.
Should, against all odds, Amavubi pull it off and qualify, the country will have ended a 17-year wait to return to the continent’s biggest football showpiece.
In the last two warm up matches, Rwanda played a goalless draw against Guinea Equatorial, while they lost 3-1 to Saint Eloi Lupopo of DRC.
