Egypt v Rwanda
It is a football truism that goals win football matches, and Amavubi Stars will have to do what they’ve not done in the previous two qualifiers against Algeria and Zambia, that is to score goals if they are to stand a chance of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and Africa Nations Cup.
Amavubi Stars assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana, who played in the team that qualified for their first maiden Africa Nations Cup in 2004 held in Tunisia, is confident the strikers will find their scoring boots in Egypt.
"The strikers shouldn’t bare the blame alone; sometimes the midfielders don’t give them ball to feed on.
"When strikers take long without scoring goals, their confidence goes down and this can lead to long scoring droughts,” said Nshimiyimana.
He added, "Claims that the team is defensive are not correct because for example the Brazilian team was also using the same system (4-5-1) but their team scored eight goals in three matches.”
Meanwhile, Amavubi were boosted by the arrival yesterday of professional players Olivier Karekezi and Boubakary Saddou.
For Rwanda to stand any chance of qualifying from group C it has to tempt fate and beat the Egyptians at their home turf on July 5.
