2010 WC/CAN Qualifier
July 5
Egypt v Rwanda
Three Cameroon based players have been summoned to Amavubi Stars team ahead of next weekend’s 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Egypt in Cairo.
The trio has been undergoing ‘trials’ with national team since Tuesday this week. Efforts to get their names have proven futile as nobody among the national football governing body; Ferwafa is willing to let the media know their descriptions.
However, information gathered hints that the Cameroonians were brought to the national team through one of the numerous mysterious Cameroonian ‘football’ scouts that Rwandan top football officials have been involved with in recent years.
But according a reliable source, who preferred not to be named that because he’s not authorized to go speak about the players, their presence is aimed at accessing their standards such that they can be drafted into the national team, which will face Egypt on July 5.
Meanwhile, FC Brussels pair of Eale Lutula and Jean Paul Kielo Lezi, and Jules Cesar Oulai (Royale Union Saint Gillis) is expected to jet in the country today.
The trio was first summoned in March to play for the national team but failed to make Branko Tucak’s final team, which played a goalless draw against Algeria on March 28 in Kigali.
The reasons for their missing of the Algeria game remain mysterious and the football officials’ reluctance to talk about the issue doesn’t make matters any better
They were again selected for the Zambia qualifier a fortnight ago, but the trio opted to come two days before the team departed from Kigali on May 28, something that never amazed Tucak, who went on to drop them from his plans for the trip that started with an international friendly against Malawi on May 31.
Whether more reinforcements are brought in the beef the squad or not, a win against the Pharaohs is the only solution to revive qualification hopes for Rwanda.
Egypt were eliminated from the ongoing Fifa Confederations Cup after finishing bottom of Group B with three points due to their inferior goal difference to Italy and the US, the latter joined Brazil in the semi-finals.
Algeria tops group with seven points after winning away to Zambia 2-1 over the weekend.
Zambia have four, while Rwanda and Egypt are in the third and fourth place respectively with one point but separated by goals difference.
