Fast-rising DJ Danny Mugisha, commonly on the decks as Selekta Danny, is the latest contestant to book a ticket to the Mutzig Amabeats DJs battle finals after beating DJ Montag in the highly-contested semifinal held Saturday, October 29, at Centre d'Accueil Avega-Agahozo Rwamagana.
Rwamagana was the last stop for the DJs battle semi-finale as Danny and Montag showed up on stage at around 9pm tussling out for the one and only ticket to the final that was up for grabs.
On the panel were DJs Infinity and Shariff who were taking notes on how each of the competing DJs were performing before revelers who turned up in numbers to witness the best of their entertaining mixes on the spins while also sipping the taste of Mutzig which was on promotion at the venue.
Danny proved to be the better opponent in showcasing skills in various sessions including mashup challenge, scratch challenge but poor sound system cost him points during the freestyle challenge and, hence fell behind Montag as a result.
"The sound system wasn't really friendly to me. I will need to talk to the team behind it so they work on the sound next time so it doesn't affect any of us at the finals," said Selekta Danny.
Losing the freestyle challenge, however, did not stop Danny coming out on top to win the Rwamagana battle with 58 per cent against Montag's 42 per cent.
"It is a good feeling going through to the finals. I've been preparing for this battle for the past days and, thank God, it worked. But it's not over yet, we still have to get the job done in the finals," said the 25-year-old DJ.
Selekta Danny, who won the inaugural battle of the DJs contest in August, joins the likes of DJ F Trucker, Rugamba, Khizzbeatz and Burster to the finals, having won their battles in Rubavu, Musanze, Huye and Rusizi respectively.
The finalists will now be doing rehearsals during the next three weeks preparing for the grand finale slated for November 26.
The winner of the Mutzig Amabeats DJs competition will walk away with Rwf18 million and a complete DJ set besides being the Mutzig brand ambassador for a period of one year.
The first runner-up will pocket Rwf12 million and a DJ set while the second runner-up will pocket Rwf2,500,000.
The contest is organised by Bralirwa Plc with a goal to promote DJs and create public awareness of the talent and quality music in Rwanda, as well as provide business opportunities, networking, and leisure activities through competitions.
