Police in Kampala is holding four individuals while two more are still on the run for alleged blackmail and plot to kill Erias Kainamura, the Manager of ONATRCOM, Kampala Office.
The group hired by a one Simon Birekeraho who was replaced by Kainamura, has been carrying out clandestine plans to blackmail or ‘phase-out’ Kainamura since 2006, until they were nabbed and placed behind bars.
Sources say Birekeraho was not pleased when he was replaced by Kainamura after an audit unearthed funds amounting to Rwf. 11m missing.
Birekeraho took responsibility for the missing funds and duly agreed to payback the missing money in 15days but he failed to meet the obligation and the Rwandan government through Interpol ordered for his arrest.
It is alleged that Birekeraho was arrested and detained, only to be released shortly after under unclear circumstances.
"The manager has been threatened through a series of false accusations every now and then for a long time on different cases that he is not aware of” confessed one of the gangsters only identified as Sam.
Others suspects arrested in mid June include Richard Maya Kitende, Mike Gaita Muwanga and a woman who holds both Ugandan and Rwandan passports with names Tumusiime Evans and Aisha Mukariyonza respectively.
The case is now at Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala while Birekeraho and his other accomplice only identified as Bosco are still at large.
The detained suspect now a witness in the case revealed Aisha coordinated the murder plot while the men have been masquerading as agents of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) since 2006 framing a series of accusation charges including illegal sale of guns.
The purported military officers from CMI continued to place threats but they run out of luck when real CMI agents foiled their plans. CMI Operatives led by one Col. Karuhanga intervened and apprehended the gang before it could accomplish its mission.
Kainamura alleges that Birekeraho and his group had conspired with the people working in the ONATRACOM parking premises to poison him but was tipped by one of the people involved in the plan.
He further alleges that late last year the ‘CMI’ agents came up with accusations including defilement, impregnating a lady and leaving her with out help, beating up a young boy named Bosco in an attempt to have him arrested.
Efforts to speak to the Regional Criminal CID were fruitless as he said he has no authority to talk to the media about this issue but we rather call the Spokesperson of police Judith Nabakoba who also said she knew nothing about the case.
