As the One Dollar Campaign gains momentum, United Nations employees in Rwanda, yesterday, launched their contribution to the fund.

Speaking during the launch the UN Resident Coordinator, Aurelien Agbenonci, acknowledged the critical significance of this cause and pledged unreserved support to the success of the initiative.

The campaign was launched by the Rwanda Diaspora Global Network mainly to raise funds to provide shelter for children orphaned by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

"The One Dollar Campaign is a project that the UN is particularly enthusiastic about due to the prudent cause it stands for; it is therefore our wish as UN staff to partner with the responsible levels in seeing that these children get a home,” said Aurelien.

He also pointed out that helping people live a better life and giving hope to the unfortunate groups of people being some of the roles of the UN as a body; it is their responsibility as the UN staff to participate in such a cause.

"As a UN team we need to pave way for new and better lives and we need to do it passionately,” underscored the UN leader
During the launch, over 500 of the UN staff from the various agencies under its jurisdiction contributed the symbolic one dollar.
