World leaders congratulate Trump on ‘historic' victory

Leaders of some countries and major organisations in the world on Wednesday, November 6, conveyed congratulatory messages to Donald Trump on his ‘historic' victory.

The messages came after Trump declared victory as results put him in pole position to return to the White House – as the 47th President of the United States (US).

Trump became the 45th US President – from January 20, 2017, to January 20, 2021.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is one of the leaders who extended congratulatory messages to Trump, promising collaboration for greater ties between India and the US, as well as promoting peace globally.

"Heartiest congratulations my friend Donald Trump. On your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability, and prosperity,” Modi said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Trump on "history’s greatest comeback!”

"Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory,” he stated.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, after congratulating Trump on his "historic election victory,” said he looks forward to working with Trump in the years ahead.

"As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise. From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come,” he remarked.

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, said "congratulations, President Donald Trump. Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said "the biggest comeback in US political history! Congratulations to President Donald Trump on his enormous win. A much-needed victory for the World!”

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, congratulated Trump "on his impressive election victory,” and expressed optimism for beneficial relations with the US.

"We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership,” adding "We are interested in developing mutually beneficial political and economic cooperation that will benefit both of our nations.

The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, said "Congratulations Donald Trump on your victory and your election as 47th President of the US. We will work on our strategic bilateral relations and on a strong transatlantic partnership.”

In her congratulatory message, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said "I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump. The EU and the US are more than just allies. We are bound by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens. So let's work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that keeps delivering for them.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated "I just congratulated Donald Trump on his election as President of the United States. His leadership will again be key to keeping our Alliance strong. I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through strength through NATO.”
