The high level meeting held at the MINALOC building requesting the special working group on Gishwati forest to expedite the resettlement of encroachers as well as finding ways of protecting the forest from further degradation is timely.

There has been nothing but disaster since the forest began being exploited mercilessly; floods have ravaged people’s homes and soil erosion has become rife.

Protecting this forest should, and must be, a priority. Rwanda cannot afford to lose any more natural forests than we have already.
