Over 6.4 million kilograms of tea will be on offer next week at the Mombasa auction.

This is a slight reduction in the amount of tea on offer compared to this week’s volume of over 6.7 million kilograms.

In the secondary grades category, participating countries will offer 955,030 kilograms next week compared to last week’s 875,252 kilograms.

According to the weekly report by the Africa Tea Brokers Limited (ATB), Kenya leads in the amounts offered with over 4.7 million kilograms compared to this week’s 5 million kilograms.

Uganda is offering over 887,000 kilograms while Tanzania will auction a total of 156,051 kilograms next week.

Other countries offering tea for auction next week are Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo who did not make any offerings this week, Mozambique, Madagascar and Malawi.

According to the report, Zambia and Ethiopia will not be making any offers next week.

On the crop growing conditions, the report indicates that rainfall has waned in many tea growing parts of Kenya including, Kericho, Buret, Bomet, Gucha, Nyamira, Kisii and Sotik.

The onset of the cold season experienced between June and July may not encourage growth in tea growing areas, the report says.
