The newly appointed U-20 national team coach Obradovic Tomislav is hoping to build a solid squad which will battle Africa’s best for the continental youth championship to be held in Rwanda in 2009.

In his first exclusive with Times Sport on the day he together with the senior team head coach Josip Kuze were unveiled to the local media, the Croat said that it’s good there is already an existing team but insisted there a lot to be done.

"I will have to make my own selection and see who is capable to be in the team. I want to first look at the existing team before deciding whether to continue with that or disband it and bring in fresh players,” Tomislav said.

The new coach hopes that with the help of the local football federation, Rwanda can win the Africa Youth championship on its home soil. Ferwafa boss, Gen. John Bosco Kazura has pledged the federation’s full support to all national coaches.

"Be Tomislav or Kuze, no one will do his job without our backing. We hope to win the African championship at home, the battle ahead is not for the coaches and the players only, it’s for the entire Rwandan community,” Kazura said.

Kazura disclosed that starting of next year, the federation would be organising training camps and international friendly matches aimed at solidifying the youth team in preparation for championship.
