DAVID Rwiyamirira raced to his maiden gong in over two years after winning the inaugural KCB Open on Saturday.

The handicap (09) golfer hit a bogey-free back nine at Kigali Golf Club to finish at one-under par and take home the day’s coveted prize.

Rwiyamirira’s back nine performance was a good come back after an appalling display on the front nine where he returned eight over after a double bogey on hole number 3, a triple bogey on hole number 4 and a bogey on the fifth hole.

He bounced back with birdies on holes 10, 12 and 14.

"It was one of my greatest come backs and I’m happy that I got there in the end,” Rwiyamirira said.

Jack Kayonga and Aaron Musonda tied on 73net but the former took second spot on count back.

Bakul Batavia 72net and Brendan Maguire 35 points reigned supreme in the second (handicap 10-18) and third (handicap 19-28) categories while Sheetar Phillip carded 41 points to dominate the ladies category.

In the professional category, Jean Baptist Hakizimana (74) beat Emmanuel Ruterana by one stroke to pocket $50 (about Rwf30,000).
