Rwanda is doubtful about sending a team at the inaugural Handball Challenge Africa tournament due for November 9-25 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The national handball federation, which had earlier confirmed its participation in the inaugural championships, has been hit by financial constraints.

The Rwanda Handball Federations (Ferwahand) secretary general said recently, "Early this month, we had confirmed to take part in the event but as of now, we’re not sure if it will be possible in the end”.

Daniel Kwizera, however, noted that they (Ferwahand) would have come up with a firm decision before the end of this month.

Rwanda is among eight countries that have (had) confirmed to take part in the inaugural Challenge trophy Africa. The others are Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and the hosts Kenya.

A correspondence from International Handball Federation (IHF) indicates that for the start, the Challenge Trophy should be eligible for players (male) born after 1982.

Four other zones will also stage similar competitions with winners of each region qualifying for the Africa Inter-Zones tournament. No dates have been set yet.

The International Handball Federation is catering for all expenses for all teams while at the tournament.
