The Ministry of Sports is holding a national sports talent week which, a four-day event slated for October 31 to November 3 in Huye and Gisagara Districts.
Held under the theme "Sports Talent as the Foundation for the Future Generation," the event will bring together over 500 young athletes from across Rwanda. They will participate in football, volleyball, basketball, handball, athletics, and cycling.
The initiative marks a shift from the previous 10-day Isonga camp, held in Nyanza District in August, which provided specialized training to under-15 athletes across the same six sports.
During the Nyanza camp, young athletes trained under experienced coaches at Igihozo Saint Peter Secondary School, where they honed their skills through the Isonga project, a broader Ministry of Sports-led initiative aimed at cultivating future sports stars for Rwanda.

Minister of Sports Richard Nyirishema highlighted the country’s commitment to sports development, and underlined the ministry’s objective to "build a solid foundation for young athletes and provide them with professional pathways to excel and represent Rwanda internationally,"
The national sports talent week aligns with the goals of the revised Sports Development Policy (2020–2030), which focuses on building structured growth paths for athletes from junior to senior levels. Featured participants include the Isonga student-athletes alongside academy teams like PSG Academy Rwanda and Bayern Munich Academy Rwanda.
Competitions will take place across various venues, including Huye Stadium and GSO Butare, and standout athletes will be recognized with trophies, scholarships, and sports equipment.
The Ministry hopes that sports development initiatives put in place will inspire youth engagement in sports and develop a dedicated community of young athletes.
The most promising athletes will be closely tracked and supported in their development journey through national programs.
