EASTERN PROVINCE

GATSIBO—Students in Kiziguro Tuesday were mourning the death of a fellow classmate who passed away at Kiziguro hospital days before final examinations.

On Monday evening, Vincent Ruboneka, a Senior-3 candidate at Kiziguro senior secondary school felt acute stomach aches and was rushed to Kiziguro hospital.

With only nurses and no doctors to attend to him, he was transferred to HSK in Kigali, but died before arrival in the capital.

Found to have intestinal obstruction, or strangulated hernia, his case could not be treated or looked after at the local centre.

Deputy headmaster of the school, J.P Bataringaya, said it came as a shock to all at a time when students were trying to prepare for exams.

"The late Ruboneka was a very well-behaved student pastor who was always eager to guide and preach to his fellow students” Bataringaya said.

Ruboneka, who was raised by his single mother, had his father die during the 1994 Genocide. The reading atmosphere at the school was disturbed with the news of the death of a fellow candidate and many students travelled to his home to pay last respects.

Kiziguro senior secondary school is located at kiziguro near Kiramurunzi in Gatsibo district with 615 students in both A and O levels.

The total number of candidates who will be sitting for their finals on October 31 is 174 for O levels and 65 for A levels.
