RUTSIRO—Police in Gihango, Rutsiro district are holding four members of one family as suspects connected to the murder of a 16 year old housemaid that happened three years ago.
The prime suspect is an RDF soldier, Etienne Habimana who allegedly killed the victim to conceal a pregnancy from a sexual relationship he had with the maid.
Police have detained Josephine Mukandori (Habimana’s wife), Veronise Nyirambonyubwabo (mother in-law) and Zachariah Bihoyiki (the family’s herdsman) for allegedly conspiring with Habimana, to murder the maid.
The victim’s murder had all along remained a mystery, until last week when relatives received information from Bihoyiki.
He said the prime suspect strangled the six month pregnant girl using a rope. He then dumped the body in a 10- meter pit latrine.
Habimana was apprehended and handed over to military prosecution. He was arrested in Musanze District while attempting to flee.
