A local engineering services company that operates internationally has repositioned its operations by taping into the local market.

The company, ‘Gasabo 3D Design’, has since its inception in Rwanda had its biggest clientele from Western Europe, the USA and India. However due to the global financial crisis it has decided to refocus its services by closely looking at the local and regional markets.

To kick-off this exercise a two day awareness and training workshop that brought together the company’s technicians and selected local engineers from different companies in the country.

Gasabo 3D is an engineering services company that specializes in rendering of three- dimensional (3D) drawings from the normal two dimensional components.

The conversion has a multitude of applications by engineers.

The Gasabo 3D CEO, John Rugamba, said during this function that they have made a decision to look at the local and later on regional markets as a repositioning strategy owing to the company’s  need to closely tap into these two equally promising markets.

As such Gasabo 3D brought together engineers from major local companies to enable them acquire the latest design tools within the engineering profession.

"We have a target of expanding our solutions not only to serve local needs but regionally as well. The ‘SolidWork’ software that we use to do design is very fast, more efficient hence the cost of production for engineers and other end users is reduced substantially,” Rugamba added.

SolidWorks is a specialized software from the USA that is used to enable engineers develop designs in a more efficient manner.

Mutemberezi Aimable, an engineer from Rwanda Cement Company (CIMERWA) who attended the workshop told The New Times that the knowledge of importing numerous file types from the normal two dimensions to three dimension programs will help CIMERWA increase its planned production upgrades.

"We plan to increase output by 6 times the current levels. The Solid works three dimension computer assisted design program which is faster and more efficient has the potential of assisting our company to meet its planned expansion strategies,” Mutemberezi said.

Gasabo 3D Ltd a recipient of the inaugural Intego   awards has its roots stemming from a collaboration framework between Rwanda, and SolidWorks Corporation of USA.
