Bralirwa, MTN, Rwandatel eager to cash in on tour

Rwanda’s sole brewers-Bralirwa and telecommunication rivals MTN Rwanda and Rwandatel are expected to throw their weight behind the All-Star tour.

The African football stars are expected to jet in this Sunday for a Charity game against Amavubi Stars aimed at supporting the ‘One Dollar campaign’ for survivors of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis.

According to the Minister of Sports and Culture, Joseph Habineza, more sponsorship offers are coming in.

"MTN, Bralirwa, Rwandatel and some insurance companies want to be part of this Charity game,” he said before adding that due to the huge offers, a special procedure will be followed depending on companies’ offers.

The platinum sponsor is expected to cough up Rwf 20million, Rwf 15million for gold and Rwf 10million for silver. The Charity match will be played on Monday at Amahoro stadium.

The All-star team is expected to have the likes of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o Fils, Chelsea hitman Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure (Barcelona), Rigobert Song (Galatasaray SK), Kolo Toure (Arsenal), Alexander Song (Arsenal), Salomon Kalou (Chelsea),Geremi Sorelle Njitap (Newcastle United), Idriss Carlos Kameni (Espanyol Barcelona), Boubacar Sanogo (Werder Bremen), S. Toure(Ivory Coast), Idriss Ilolo (Ivory Coast) and Emmanuel Eboue (Arsenal).

Michael Essien’s involvement is still a doubt since Ghana has a 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup qualifier this weekend.
President Paul Kagame has offered to foot the team’s travel costs to and fro.

Away from football, the players will pay a courtesy call to Kagame, visit Ferwafa’s football academy, Kigali Genocide memorial site and orphanage centers in Kigali.

The ‘One Dollar Campaign for Genocide Survivors’ is a project developed by the Rwandan Diaspora community with a mission to support and improve the living condition and social welfare of vulnerable genocide survivors.
