DR Congo friendly cancelled

Amavubi v Africa Stars

Egypt v Rwanda
JIMMY Mulisa has earned a surprise recall to the Amavubi Stars. Despite training with Amavubi in the build up to the 2010 World/ Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia, the Belgium-based midfielder failed to make the final squad due to poor form. However, the former APR prodigy has been given another chance to prove himself ahead of a must win game in Egypt.
Rwanda play Egypt in a 2010 World/ Africa Nations Cup qualifier next month knowing that they need to scrap out a win to revive their qualification chances.
The recall could mean that Amavubi head coach Tucak Branko still believes that a firing Mulisa can make a meaningful contribution.
Mulisa, who trained with the team yesterday morning, is among the 16 players in camp.
Eleven APR players initially summoned to camp will link up with Branko after the on-going East African Military Games. The games end on June 25.
Rwanda has had the worst of starts in the 2010 qualification campaign after managing a point from their opening two qualifiers.
In the first qualifier, Amavubi stars were held to a goalless draw against Algeria before suffering a 1-0 defeat in their second qualifier against Zambia. The score line could have been bigger if it were not for the heroics of the Amavubi stopper Jean Claude Ndoli.
Egypt’s 3-1 defeat against Algeria further complicated the equation for Amavubi since they must now win in Cairo to get their qualification campaign back on track.
Algeria is atop Group C on goal difference after a four-point tie with Zambia.
Rwanda and Egypt, also separated by goal difference languish in third and fourth place respectively.
In a related development, the initial friendly (June 30) between Amavubi and DR Congo has been called off. Reports indicate that DR. Congo can’t raise a full strength side.
