REG 105-48 Fox Divas
Center Mercy Wanyama stole the show as her game-high 15 points powered Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women side to a 105-48 victory over Tanzania’s Fox Divas at Amaan Indoor Stadium on Sunday, October 27, to star their 2024 FIBA Zone V Women’s Championship campaign in grand style.
Point guard Destiney Philoxy and American center Kristina Morgan added 13 points apiece for the Rwandan champions while Jescal Julius Ngisase and Christelle Ngusu dominated Fox Divas’s scoring with 15 points and 14 points respectively.
REG were flying high in from the very beginning of the game, winning the first two quarters 28-13, 22-11 respectively to take control of the game with a 50-24 lead at the break.
Coming back to the court in the second half, REG started from where they stopped and claimed the third quarter 33-10 and the fourth 22-14 to register a three-digit score in their opening game of the campaign.

Julian Martinez’s side returns to action on Monday, October 28, against Kenya’s Equity Bank. On the same day, APR will play their first game against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Group B opener.

It is all systems go as 11 teams battle for a place in the Women Basketball League Africa (WBL-Africa) which will take place in Dakar, Senegal in December.
The Zone V competition gets underway on Sunday 27 October and runs through Saturday November2, at the newly-constructed Amaan Indoor Stadium. The top two teams will bag automatic slots the AWBL finals.
APR are drawn in Group B, with KPA (Kenya) and Hawassa City (Ethiopia) while REG are in Group C alongside Equity Bank (Kenya), Fox Divas (Tanzania) and Gladiators (Burundi).
