FIBA has announced that the second edition of the FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball League (AWBL) will take place in Dakar, Senegal.
The competition, scheduled for December 6-15, will bring together top African women’s clubs to vie for continental glory. They will, however, first pass the zonal tests including the Zone V championship which is underway in Zanzibar since Sunday, October 27.
Representing Rwanda at the Zone V tournament are domestic champions REG (Rwanda Energy Group) and APR.
Dakar will be the second African city - since Cairo in 2023- to host the newly-revamped FIBA Africa Women's Basketball League.
Twelve teams from different corners of the continent are expected to participate in the event.

Alexandria Sporting Club are the title holders of the competition which they won after beating Kenya Ports Authority in the final held at the home country’s capital city Cairo.
Except for hosts Association Sportive Ville de Dakar, teams will go through qualifiers scheduled to take place between October and November.
Schedules for the zonal qualifiers are as follows:
FIBA Africa Zone 3: Monrovia, Liberia (29 October to 3 November)
FIBA Africa Zone 4: Douala, Cameroon (27 October to 1 November)
FIBA Africa Zone 5: Zanzibar, Tanzania (27 October to 2 November)
FIBA Africa Zone 6: Maputo, Mozambique (Schedule to be determined)
