CHOGM 2024: Kagame leaves Samoa 'with admiration'

While leaving Samoa where he spent a couple of days participating in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), President Paul Kagame on Saturday, October 26, said he was leaving the nation with admiration for the beauty of the country and warmth of its people.

This year’s CHOGM was the first to be held in a Pacific Small Island Developing State. It started in Apia, the Samoan capital, on October 21 and ran through October 26, as leaders discussed various economic, environmental and security challenges.

"I leave Samoa with admiration for the beauty of the country and the warmth of its people. I congratulate my sister Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata'afa for her role as new Chair in Office, and thank her for leading this year’s CHOGM with wisdom and purpose,” Kagame posted on X.

He wished success to Samoa’s Prime Minister Fiame Mata’afa in her role as the new CHOGM chair, noting that he looks forward to continuing to work together for the benefit of all members of the Commonwealth.

"It has been an honour for Rwanda to serve as Chair in office,” he wrote.
