Rwanda Film Festival hits Gicumbi

GICUMBI - Residents of Byumba town were last Sunday entertained to a variety of films by Rwanda Film Festival, a product of Rwanda Cinema Centre which took place at Byumba Taxi Park, from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm.

The Director of Rwanda Film Festival, Eric Kabera, said the mobile film is aimed at enlightening the youth on the dangers of engaging into sexual relationship with sugar daddies while still at school, in addition to entertaining the public.

"Our task is mainly to educate the masses on various social dangers encountered by the youth such as early pregnancies, dangers of contracting HIV/Aids and exposure to drug abuse,” Kabera said.

The mobile film attracted residents from Rukomo, Kageyo and Byumba sectors of Gicumbi District.

"Film festival is the best way to educate the youth on the dangers of early marriages and exposure to HIV/AIDS,” Jean Bosco Ntakobisa, a resident of Gicumbi  said.

Rwanda Film festival last showed films to Byumba town residents early last year. This year’s mobile film was featured secondary school students, including one acted by CYURU Secondary School of Gicumbi District.

Hillywood’s film festival is currently a major event in the country. A small group of young Rwandan filmmakers are showing a wide range of different films in all the five provinces of the country.

In Kigali, the screenings will take place at Kigali Serena Hotel, Shokola Café, Torero Café, Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion’s office at Prime Holdings, Hotel Mille Collines, and at Maison des jeunes starting June18.

This year’s screening started from the country side, and will conclude in Kigali and Butare on June 28. .
