This year the tourism department of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has earmarked Rwf306 million, an equivalent of 5 percent of its annual foreign currency earnings to be used to support 50 projects country-wide.

This was announced by Rosette Rugamba the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) RDB in charge of Tourism while in Nyabihu district in the western province where she inaugurated two classroom blocks at Akimitoni Primary School.

Rugamba said that Rwf106 million of the total sum of money earned from tourism would be focused on areas surrounding national parks.

"Some of this money will be used to mostly develop districts surrounding national parks,” she said.

"We have been sensitizing you about conservation of the national parks and these are some of the benefits,” she added.

Talking to locals who had turned up for the inauguration, Rugamba said that the accomplished projects were evidence to the significance of the tourism sector. She urged the locals to continue conserving the national parks in order to have continued infrastructural development.

The tourism sector has had three consecutive years topping as one of the highest foreign exchange earners for the country. With its three year consecutive success since 2006, it has been financing numerous projects across the country directed at infrastructural development.

Some of the projects include the construction of 11 primary schools and providing start up income to businesses in a poverty eradication campaign country wide.
