President Paul Kagame was on October 24 honoured as the African of the Year, an award bestowed to an esteemed individual who embodies the spirit of growth and resilience that is driving Africa forward.

This is among the many awards given across different categories by All Africa Business Leaders Awards in partnership with CNBC Africa to honour remarkable leadership and salute game changers of business on the continent for their continuing commitment to excellence, developing best practices and innovative strategies.

"Their commitment to excellence and transformative leadership inspires us all to embrace the potential of our continent,” said the organizers on the African of the Year award.

With more than 10 categories, the award stands out as one of the African prestigious award. The ceremony held in South Africa saw the High Commissioner of Rwanda in South Africa, Emmanuel Hategeka, receive the award on behalf of President Kagame who is in Samoa attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

"His Excellency the President dedicated this award to the millions of men, women, and youth who work tirelessly to build a stronger and more prosperous Africa,” remarked Hategeka.

"Let us continue to lead with purpose, to foster innovation, and to inspire the next generation of African leaders. Together, we can build an Africa that is not just on the rise, but an Africa that defines its own destiny and shapes the future of the world.”

Kagame last scooped this award in 2018.

Hailemariam Dessalegn, the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, said the Head of State deserves the award for his outstanding leadership.
