RWANDA’S Abraham Ruhumuriza won the inaugural two-day Kwita Izina cycling competition which climaxed yesterday at Amahoro stadium.

The cycling ace, who featured for Rubavu club clocked ten hours, fifty-nine minutes and twelve seconds (10:59:12) in the 358km event which also attracted cyclists from Uganda.

Fellow club mate and rival Uwase Nyandwi took second place after clocking eleven hours, six minutes and twenty-nine seconds (11:06:29) while Rwanda’s upcoming star Nicodem Habiyambere from Cine Elmay finished third after clocking eleven hours, fourteen minutes and fifty-seven seconds (11:14:57).

Ruhumuriza won Rwf 0.5 million for his display. The top 24 cyclists were also awarded cash prizes.  The highly billed, bankrolled by Rwanda Development Board (RDB) under ORPTN (Rwanda Office of tourism and national Parks) attracted 38 cyclists.

Kwita Izina is the first competition on this year’s national cycling calendar.
